# Don't Work! — connect this computer (instructions for an AI assistant)

## 1. What this is

Don't Work! (https://dontwork.co) is a record of the hours people's AI works: AI hours, counted from the output tokens in the logs Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI keep on the computer (100,000 output tokens = 1 AI-hour).

A person asked you, their AI assistant, to connect this computer to it. These are the steps. You run the commands. The person does one thing: opens a page in their browser and presses “Allow”.

One person may connect several computers: these steps are run on each computer, and nothing has to be removed first. If this computer was connected before (~/.dontwork/config.json already holds a token), run the steps all the same — the tool keeps this computer's mark, takes a new token, and this computer's numbers are counted once, not twice.

## 2. Rules

1. Use the tool — dontwork.mjs, from https://dontwork.co/agent/dontwork.mjs — for all of it. Do not read, count, summarise or send anything in ~/.claude, ~/.codex, ~/.gemini or any other folder yourself: everyone's hours are counted the same way, and the conversations stay untouched.
2. The tool reads from the logs the date, the tool (Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI) and the number of output tokens — and, to count the kinds of work, the name of each tool the AI used, the extension of a file it edited and the first word of a Codex command. It does not keep or send conversations, code, commands, file names or paths. It sends one row per day and tool (the date, the tool, the output tokens, the hours, and how many times each of eight kinds of tool was used), the one-line notes the person wrote, if any, and a random mark that tells this computer apart (it holds nothing about the computer itself). To send no kinds of work, set "kinds": false in ~/.dontwork/config.json.
3. Never ask the person for a password, a token, a cookie or a sign-in code, and do not look for one. The tool gets its own token when the person presses “Allow”.
4. Do not open the page for the person and do not press anything in their browser. They press “Allow” themselves.
5. Ask the person before you install anything (Node.js).
6. The commands reach https://dontwork.co, write into ~/.dontwork, and register one job with the system's own scheduler (launchd, systemd or Task Scheduler) to send every hour. If your sandbox stops any of this, ask the person to allow it.
7. The tool checks dontwork.co for a newer version once an hour, when it syncs, and replaces itself only after checking its signature; set "autoupdate": false in ~/.dontwork/config.json to stop that.

## 3. Steps

1. Check Node.js: node -v. It must be v20 or newer. If Node is missing or older, ask the person whether you may install it (https://nodejs.org). If they say no, tell them they can count in the browser instead — https://dontwork.co/connect/ — and stop.

2. Download the tool.

   macOS / Linux:

3. Check its SHA-256. It must be exactly:

   Linux: sha256sum ~/.dontwork/bin/dontwork.mjs

   If it is different, stop: do not run it, and tell the person.

4. Start the connection. This command ends at once — in a second or two. It asks dontwork.co for a code, opens the page in the person's browser, and prints one JSON object per line:

   macOS / Linux:

   If the person writes to you in Japanese, add --lang ja (the page and the messages are then in Japanese, and connect --finish keeps it):

   It prints:

5. Show the person the url and the code at once, and say: “Open this page and press Allow. Check that the page shows the same code, ABCD-EFGH. Tell me when you have pressed it.” The tool also opens the page in their browser, and the page says the same code is in your chat.

6. When the person says they have pressed it — or after 20 to 30 seconds if they say nothing — run:

   macOS / Linux:

       node ~/.dontwork/bin/dontwork.mjs connect --finish --json

   Windows (PowerShell):

       node "$HOME\.dontwork\bin\dontwork.mjs" connect --finish --json

   It waits for the answer for 60 seconds at most, then ends. If “Allow” has not been pressed yet, it prints:

   Then tell the person “The approval has not arrived yet”, and run connect --finish again. When the 10 minutes are over (expires_in comes down to 0), start again from step 4.

   Once it is allowed, it prints:

   autosync can also say "unsupported" (this computer cannot send by itself; its message says how to send by hand) or "skipped" (you passed --no-autosync).
   Then tell the person how many rows were sent, whether it now sends every hour, and their page: the profile_url.
   A line that is not JSON (a warning from Node, say) can be ignored.

7. Keep Claude Code's logs. Claude Code deletes conversation logs older than 30 days unless told otherwise (cleanupPeriodDays, default 30), and a day whose log is gone can never be counted. Ask the person: “Claude Code deletes its logs after 30 days. May I set cleanupPeriodDays to 3650 in ~/.claude/settings.json, so the coming months stay countable?” Only if they say yes: add "cleanupPeriodDays": 3650 to ~/.claude/settings.json (make the file with {"cleanupPeriodDays": 3650} if there is none; keep every other key as it is; change nothing else in it). If they say no, leave it. Codex keeps its sessions: nothing to do there.

## 4. When something goes wrong

The tool prints {"event":"error","error":"…","message":"…"}, then done with a code other than 0. Show the person the message.

- pending (code 4) is not an error: “Allow” has not been pressed yet. Tell the person the approval has not arrived yet, and run connect --finish again. After the 10 minutes, start again from step 4.
- no_pending (code 1): connect --finish found no request to finish. Run connect --start (step 4) first.
- denied (code 2): the person pressed Cancel. Do nothing more.
- expired (code 3): the 10 minutes ran out. Start again from step 4.
- network: this computer could not reach dontwork.co. Check the connection, then run the same command again.
- unknown or consumed: start again from step 4.
- send_failed: connected, but the first send did not go through. It is tried again every hour.
- autosync_failed: connected and sent, but the hourly send could not be set. Try: node ~/.dontwork/bin/dontwork.mjs autosync on
- synced with rows 0: there are no records on this computer. Claude Code or Codex has not been used here yet; a chat in the browser (ChatGPT, claude.ai) leaves none.
- node not found, or older than v20: see step 1.

## 5. How to stop or remove

- Stop sending every hour: node ~/.dontwork/bin/dontwork.mjs autosync off (Windows: node "$HOME\.dontwork\bin\dontwork.mjs" autosync off)
- Take back this computer's permission, and its numbers out of the person's record: on “Connected computers” (https://dontwork.co/machines), press “Remove” on it. Its key stops working at once.
- A key that has sent nothing yet is on no computer's row: on “Connected computers” (the same page), open “For the technically minded (CLI tokens)” and press “Revoke” on it.
- Delete the records and the account: in Settings, under “Delete my records and my account”, press “Delete everything”.

# Don't Work! — この PC をつなぐ（AI アシスタントが読む説明書）

## 1. これは何か

Don't Work!（https://dontwork.co）は、AI が働いた時間の記録です。Claude Code・Codex・Gemini CLI が PC に残す記録の出力トークン数から数えます（出力トークン10万＝AI労働1時間）。

人が、あなた（その人の AI アシスタント）に、この PC の記録をつなぐよう頼みました。これはその手順です。コマンドはあなたが打ちます。人がするのは、ブラウザでページを開いて「許可する」を押すことだけです。

1人が何台でもつなげます。この手順を PC ごとに行います。先に何かを消す必要はありません。この PC が前につないであっても（~/.dontwork/config.json にすでに token があっても）、この手順をそのまま行ってください。道具はこの PC の印を持ち続け、新しい token を受け取ります。この PC の数字が二重に数えられることはありません。

## 2. 守ること

1. 必ずこの道具（dontwork.mjs・https://dontwork.co/agent/dontwork.mjs）を使ってください。~/.claude・~/.codex・~/.gemini などのフォルダの中身を、自分で読んだり、数えたり、要約したり、送ったりしないでください。全員の時間を同じ数え方で揃えるため、そして会話の中身に触れないためです。
2. 道具が記録から読むのは、日付・道具（Claude Code・Codex・Gemini CLI）・出力トークン数と、作業の種類を数えるための、AI が使った道具の名前・書き換えたファイルの拡張子・Codex のコマンドの最初の1語です。会話・コード・コマンド・ファイル名・パスは残しませんし、送りません。送るのは、日ごと・道具ごとの1行（日付・道具・出力トークン数・時間・8種類の作業ごとの回数）と、人が書いた一言（あれば）と、この PC を見分けるための乱数の印（PC そのものの情報は含みません）だけです。作業の種類を送らないなら、~/.dontwork/config.json に "kinds": false を書きます。
3. 人にパスワード・トークン・cookie・ログインのコードを聞かないでください。探さないでください。道具は、人が「許可する」を押したときに、自分のトークンを受け取ります。
4. 人の代わりにページを開いたり、ブラウザで何かを押したりしないでください。「許可する」は人が自分で押します。
5. 何か（Node.js）を入れるときは、先に人に聞いてください。
6. コマンドは https://dontwork.co に通信し、~/.dontwork に書き込み、1時間ごとに送るためのジョブを OS の予定の仕組み（launchd・systemd・タスク スケジューラ）に1つ登録します。サンドボックスがどれかを止めるときは、人に許可を求めてください。
7. 道具は 1 時間ごとの同期のときに dontwork.co の最新版を確かめ、署名を確かめてから自分を差し替えます。止めるには ~/.dontwork/config.json に "autoupdate": false。

## 3. 手順

1. Node.js を確かめる: node -v。v20 以上が要ります。無い・古いときは、入れてよいか人に聞いてください（https://nodejs.org）。断られたら、ブラウザで数える道 https://dontwork.co/connect/ を案内して、ここで終わります。

2. 道具を取る。

   macOS・Linux:

4. つなぎ始める。このコマンドはすぐ終わります（1〜2秒）。dontwork.co にコードを頼み、人のブラウザでページを開き、1行に1つ JSON を出します:

   日本語の人には --lang ja を付けます（ページと文が日本語になり、connect --finish もそのまま日本語です）:

5. すぐに、出てきた verify の url と code を人に見せて、「このページを開いて『許可する』を押してください。ページのコードが ABCD-EFGH と同じか確かめてください。押したら教えてください」と伝えます。道具もブラウザでページを開き、ページは「AI のチャットに同じコードが出ています」と言います。

6. 人が「押した」と言ったら（何も言われなくても 20〜30 秒たったら）、次を打ちます:

   macOS・Linux:

       node ~/.dontwork/bin/dontwork.mjs connect --finish --json

   Windows（PowerShell）:

       node "$HOME\.dontwork\bin\dontwork.mjs" connect --finish --json

   許可を待ち、長くて 60 秒で終わります。まだ「許可する」が押されていなければ、次を出します:

   そのときは人に「まだ許可が届いていません」と伝えて、もう一度 connect --finish を打ちます。10分を過ぎたら（expires_in が 0 まで減ったら）手順 4 からやり直します。

   autosync は "unsupported"（この PC では自動で送れない。message に手での送り方がある）や "skipped"（--no-autosync を付けた）のこともあります。
   終わったら人に伝えます: 何行送ったか、1時間ごとに自動で送るようになったか、あなたのページ（profile_url）。
   JSON でない行（Node の警告など）は読み飛ばしてかまいません。

7. Claude Code の記録を消させない。Claude Code は、何もしなければ30日より古い会話ログを消します（cleanupPeriodDays・既定 30）。ログが消えた日は、あとから数えられません。人に聞いてください:「Claude Code は30日でログを消します。これからの分を数えられるように、~/.claude/settings.json の cleanupPeriodDays を 3650 にしてよいですか？」。はい、と言われたときだけ、~/.claude/settings.json に "cleanupPeriodDays": 3650 を足します（ファイルが無ければ {"cleanupPeriodDays": 3650} で作る・ほかの鍵はそのまま・ほかは何も変えない）。いいえ、ならそのままにします。Codex は記録を消しません。何もしなくてよいです。

## 4. うまくいかないとき

道具は {"event":"error","error":"…","message":"…"} を出し、そのあと 0 でない code の done を出します。message を人に見せてください。

- pending（code 4）はエラーではありません: まだ「許可する」が押されていません。人に「まだ許可が届いていません」と伝えて、もう一度 connect --finish を打ちます。10分を過ぎたら手順 4 からやり直します。
- no_pending（code 1）: connect --finish が、続きの申し込みを見つけられませんでした。先に connect --start（手順 4）を打ちます。
- denied（code 2）: 人が「やめる」を押しました。これ以上なにもしません。
- expired（code 3）: 10分が過ぎました。手順 4 からやり直します。
- network: この PC から dontwork.co につながりませんでした。ネットを確かめて、同じコマンドをもう一度打ちます。
- unknown・consumed: 手順 4 からやり直します。
- send_failed: つながりましたが、最初の送りが届きませんでした。1時間ごとに送り直します。
- autosync_failed: つながって送りましたが、1時間ごとの送りを登録できませんでした。試す: node ~/.dontwork/bin/dontwork.mjs autosync on
- synced の rows が 0: この PC に記録がありません。Claude Code か Codex をこの PC でまだ使っていません（ブラウザの ChatGPT・claude.ai のチャットは記録を残しません）。
- node が無い・v20 より古い: 手順 1 へ。

## 5. 止め方・消し方

- 1時間ごとの送りを止める: node ~/.dontwork/bin/dontwork.mjs autosync off（Windows: node "$HOME\.dontwork\bin\dontwork.mjs" autosync off）
- この PC の許可を取り消し、数字も記録から外す: 「連携した PC」（https://dontwork.co/ja/machines）で、その PC の「外す」を押す。その PC の鍵はすぐに使えなくなります。
- まだ何も送っていない鍵は、どの PC の行にもありません: 「連携した PC」（同じページ）の「詳しい人向け（CLI のトークン）」を開き、その鍵の「失効させる」を押す。
- 記録とアカウントを消す: 「設定」の「ログとアカウントの削除」で「すべて削除する」を押す。
